A bible study for unchurched women
About the Book
Crowned is the first of three discipleship books designed to aid churches and women’s ministries in developing fully-formed disciples of Christ – women who are grounded in who they are (worldview), what they believe (biblical literacy), and what they are called to do (missional living).
As the initial component in the series, Crowned tackles a woman’s worldview by helping those with little or no biblical background root their identity in Christ.
Each chapter answers two key questions: Who is God? and Who am I in Christ? (The final two books in the series will look at biblical literacy and missional living).
Here’s a quick overview of Crowned:
Chapter 1: God is our good Creator and King who shares his glory with us by crowning us with his very image (CREATION).
Chapter 2: God is our Savior who rescues us from sin through his Son when we rebelled against his throne (THE FALL).
Chapter 3: God is our righteous Judge, pardoning our sin and wrapping us in the royal robes of his Son (JUSTIFICATION).
Chapter 4: God is our forever Father who adopts us and gives us an eternal inheritance as daughters of the King (ADOPTION).
Chapter 5: God is our holy King who claims us as his and cleanses us from sin, renewing his image in us so we might share in his glory and serve as his heirs of grace with his Son (SANCTIFICATION).
From each of these truths concerning the character and activity of God, we learn the core of our own personal identity: who we are and what we are meant to do. We are, as the title suggests, Crowned: Created for Glory, Called by His Name.

Why use this study?
Fabulous Bible studies abound, so why should you buy this book?
Simply put: the landscape of women’s ministry is changing! It is no longer safe to assume that the women we seek to reach share our Christian worldview.
Here’s my story: While forming a discipleship strategy for the women in our Pittsburgh church plant, I discovered that many of the women coming through our doors had little or no Bible training. Despite having grown up in a religious home, some never owned a Bible or read one outside of church. Additionally, many women were coming to faith in Christ out of a legalistic upbringing.
Crowned is born out of a need for women’s discipleship material that centered on who God created women to be rather than what they were expected to do after they came to faith in Christ. I needed a study that introduced young believers to the central truths of their salvation rather than giving them a religious checklist (pray, read your Bible, tithe, go to church).
And above all, I needed a study that relayed big truths in simple terms! Crowned is all of those things.
Additionally, this study is specifically designed as a discipleship toolbox for a small group or women’s ministry. Ideally, a seasoned Christian woman would use this book as a teaching guide, walking a new disciple through the material over 5 weeks.
Along with discipleship material embedded into each chapter, the book also contains discussion and study material called Kingdom Keys for women seeking deeper study or for leaders to use in preparing their hearts as they disciple others.
Plus, five short chapters means women’s ministries aren’t locked into longer 10-12 week studies and can begin new small groups throughout the semester as new believers come to Christ.

About the author:
I’m Melissa, the creator of Hive Resources. My passion as a Christian journalist and creative writer is to “tell of God’s marvelous works” (Ps. 9:1). And with almost 15 years experience in print and editorial services, God has embedded me with passions gleaned from stories and experiences from the field. Helping women fall in love with the sweetness of God’s Word makes my heart sing (as does brown sugar and copious amounts of coffee). I launched Hive Resources a few years ago to help women sweeten their walk with Christ through Bible study, devotional articles, book reviews, and more. Some academic stuff: I have a M.Div. in Women’s Studies from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and a B.A. in Journalism from Texas A&M University.
My husband, Jonathan, and I recently transplanted to Chattanooga, TN! We have 7-year-old twin boys, Zacharias and Jonah, who are unwittingly and joyfully shaping us into the image of Christ.
