Hands down, Easter is my favorite holiday.
Even more than Christmas, Easter is a time to praise our King for new life. At Christmas we celebrate the One who came to save us from our sin. But at Easter, we celebrate the One who rose again so we might be fully restored to the King’s kingdom. We need more than to be forgiven of sin; we need to be fully remade in his image. And in Christ’s resurrection, we’re given hope for what we may one day look like.
While we live in light of the resurrection every day of the year, this Easter, I hope you’ll set aside some special time as a family to celebrate the fact that Christ is Risen! Here’s a tool to help you do so:
The Easter Story Eggs
Last year, I had the exciting opportunity to reflect on the resurrection by contributing a chapter to an Easter devotional produced Family Treeditions – a group helping you root your family in the love and knowledge of God.
The Easter Story Eggs walk you through the Easter story. There are 12 eggs ornaments that coincide with 12 devotions – each centering on a name, character attribute, or activity of our Savior all leading up to his resurrection.
On the front of each ornament is Christ’s title or character attribute; on the back is a matching symbol (great for pre-readers!) Last year, we added an ornament each day until we reached Easter Sunday. This year, I had a little help adding all the ornaments at once.
The tree, purchased separately, is one of my favorite Treeditions products. I have used it year around for many different events – Christmas advent decorations, baby showers, valentine love notes, etc. The white tree stands at 48” and the branches bend making it easy to decorate and then store away when it’s not in use. It is also available in iron!
I contributed a devotional on the innocence of Christ taken from John 18:29-38 and Isaiah 53, sharing a story from our recent trip to Ohio’s Canfield Fair where we watched a sheep shearing contest. Along with a selected Bible passage, each devotional includes discussion questions for your family and a special prayer to direct your heart toward our risen King.
The Easter Story Eggs have proven to be a wonderful tool for our family to celebrate the resurrection. I know your family will enjoy it, too!

Love this giveaway, Melissa! Thank you so much for this resource! Also, I apologize to all your other readers since I’m planning to win this. : )
ha! you crack me up Emily! Your girls would love these!
How neat! We are part f a community of Chinese believers who do baptisms on Easter and it always helps me reflect on how the power of the resurrection is changing the world. Today.
Wow, Melissa, that is a powerful testimony to the true nature of the Resurrection! I love it! Would love to hear more!
What a blessing to find your corner of the web. I am a bee-keeper so i was drawn immediately in by the scripture and the icons. We love Easter at this house, too! My kiddos are 18, 15, and 11 , but they still love reading the Easter Story and Benjamin’s Eggs with me. I love the decorations you shared! 🙂 I would use both the tree and the ornaments because they present a great opportunity to share His Story.
I found you at Thought Provoking Thursday, with Lyli.
Blessings!

Thanks for stopping by Dawn!
Reflecting on the simple fact that God loved me so much that He sent His Son to die for my sins, and by that being “pre-approved” into the Kingdom of Heaven. That one act holds more love than I will ever understand in my human mind! I only wish that I can convey that understanding to my own children 🙂
It’s hard to convey all that to our kids! But if we’re intentional to break the story into little pieces, it becomes much more manageable! I’m shocked at how much my kids can grasp even at age 4 and 5!
Hi neighbor at Thought provoking Thursdays. What a creative idea you write about here. love it!
This looks like a great recourse I would love to have 🙂
My little is 4 this year, hoping to just have him grasp the story a bit better, he always sees Jesus as a baby since it is everywhere during Christmas, he doesn’t seem to understand Jesus on the cross as the same person.
Move over bunny! Though we have never played up the Easter bunny traditions in our home the kids still see him and hear about him everywhere they go. This looks like a great way to put your faith on display in your home. If we displayed it prominently in our home then perhaps it would even give the children an opportunity to witness to guests that enter our home. Thank you for sharing this wonderful resource. I will share it on twitter (@iStudyScriputre) an Pinterest under my Easter Inspiration board http://www.pinterest.com/Geaney/
Amanda – thank you so much for sharing this resources! I love it!
Love this idea for telling the Easter story. We’ve been talking a lot about forgiveness and selflessness during family devotions, and understanding what Jesus did for us through his death and resurrection is the greatest example.
I’d love to hear what you’re using for your family devotions!
What a great idea of teaching kids of Vod’s truth and the meaning of Easter. Thank you for sharing it.
Melissa – this looks great! We always enjoy using Resurrection Eggs at Easter so this will be an excellent companion to that! Thank you!
We love the Resurrection eggs too! My kids love opening them, however, we’ve lost some of the pieces and need to replace them! ha!
I’m reflecting how much I need more of Christ Himself than more activity, even if it is worthwhile activity! 🙂 Nevertheless, I’d love to use these eggs. Thanks!
Hi Megan, thanks for stopping by!
Would love to win these as a resource at our church!
oh, they would be a great church resource! I hadn’t thought about that. I help teach the preschoolers at our church and I’ll have to think of a way to integrate these!
I’m reading through N. T. Wright’s “Lent for Everyone” devotional. I’m loving “following along” with the disciples as they are astonished and amazed at who Jesus is, who He came to be, and what His radical kingdom really looks like.
Is there a way to see all the character attributes and scripture used as well as the pictures? I’d love to use these with my daughters. Thanks for sharing.
