About the study
If you’re new to the site, here’s a little about the book.
Crowned is a five-week discipleship guide that roots a woman’s identity in Christ.
Each chapter uncovers the significance of five truths of salvation (creation, redemption, justification, adoption, and sanctification) by answering two key questions: Who is God? and Who am I in Christ?
From each of these truths concerning the character and activity of God, a disciple can uncover her kingdom destiny: who she is and how she’s meant to live in a modern world.
A study for ‘unchurched’ women
Crowned is written specifically for women who are unchurched – women who don’t have a church background and lack a Christian worldview.
I believe the greatest hurdle facing women’s ministries today is the lack of discipleship strategies for reaching women who have no biblical background. We can no longer assume that the women in our neighborhoods or churches have been exposed to the gospel – or its implications for daily life!
The way we disciple women must change to reflect these growing trends in our communities. We must use simpler language. We must instruct these women first in who they are in Christ before we give them a discipleship “to-do” list. And above all, we must intentionally train them how to replicate themselves by making their own disciples.
These are lessons I learned while living and serving in an area of the U.S. with very few evangelical churches. Crowned grew out the need to minister to unchurched women attending our SBC church plant. Some had never studied the Scriptures, and others had never owned their own Bible.
Crowned is the first in a series of three discipleship books designed to instruct unchurched women in three key areas of Christian living: a biblical worldview, biblical literacy, and biblical (or missional) living. The final two books (on biblical literacy and missional living) will be released in 2016.
In the hands of a veteran discipleship leader or simply a new believer, Crowned summarizes Scripture’s basic teachings on a woman’s personal identity and purpose in life.

Lack of Bible knowledge….it’s easier for the women to talk about feelings and relationships than discuss passages of Scripture or theological concepts. Your new book looks awesome! It’s going on my to-read list! 😉
What a sweet bundle, some ladies are going to get. I will share this giveaway with others. The book looks so great, it was a pleasure to design. I am so excited for you.
The biggest hurdle we face is different time schedules and demands. We have to overcome these in order to meet together and edify one another. But we meet once a month as an encouragement group and are beginning to read a book together. I’d love your resource, and thanks for the opportunity to win!
Hope I win…..
The biggest hurdle of women’s ministry seems to me to be time constraints (with families) and lack of a discipleship mindset.
totally agree Jessica! Finding time to intentionally disciple others is key!
I love this and I’m so excited for you!! I agree that time constraint and maybe a little insecurity regarding lack of biblical knowledge holds ladies back (I was one of those ladies at one time). It is my prayer that these women know what a gift it is to their spouse/kids and for themselves to be a mom/wife who is deeply rooted in Gods Word. Love you!!
CanIGetAnAmen, girl?
What an incredible resource to reach the majority of those around us with the good news of Christ! It’s a challenge to help new believers and those questioning whether they even want to believe, navigate Christianese and learn to navigate scripture. This is one challenge our church is just beginning to come upon! I can’t wait to check out your materials! I’m so excited about the incredible resource they provide!
Mary, I LOVE that – Christianese! haha!
My husband and I have been sent out to help with a church plant. Our greatest struggle with women’s ministry is we have a bunch of women mostly new to church and no men. Most of the women’s husbands aren’t church goers. So it makes it difficult.
Yes, Katie, we saw that issue too. Many of the women who came to our church plant were single by either choice or divorce. In the South, many churches are family-centered (which is a great thing) but it is hard for a single woman to find her place in that dynamic. There has to be a lot of intentional discipleship for that to take place. I’d be interested to talking with you more about it if you want to privately email me. info@hiveresources.com
Most of the comments, I would agree with. Time constraints. We have women in all walks of life; stay at home moms, widows, divorced with kids, singles with no kids, but work full time jobs. It is hard to gather them all in at once. And creating a mindset for discipleship. I would say that our church loves evangelism but I feel that once someone becomes a Christian, we lack the resources to then disciple them, so that they can have a good, well-rounded understanding of what they have been adopted into through studying scripture. I was able to read a preview copy and I think this will be great resource for our church!
I agree with you Nika! Busyness is a real problem for many women who juggle multiple responsibilities in and out of the home.
We face multiple challenges: lack of biblical background; lack of discipled mature believers to use as mentors, and just lack of interest – show up on Sunday and I’m done. I’m so excited about this new book. I am constantly trying to “unchurch” my speech to communicate effectively with the women that God is bringing to our church and this new book will be a great tool in giving them the basics!
Janet – I agree with you on all counts! It is harder than it looks to “unchurch” our speech! I grew up in the Bible belt and when we moved to the Northeast, i had a crash-course in this process! I’d love to chat more with you on this topic as it’s near and dear to my heart.
I work with college students and one of the biggest hurdles is apathy- not understanding or realizing their need for Jesus.
Chelsea – apathy is huge among existing believers. Part of that problem is rooted in poor discipleship! We have to change that model!
In my current university setting I’ve found it hard to customize the message to fit each type of woman. I’ve got girly girls and others who are the opposite of glitter and sparkles who would prefer to shoot guns and play sports. Sometimes finding materials that speak to the whole spectrum is difficult.
Kim – I hear you! I love high tea, but not everyone loves the idea of porcelain and lace! If we root our language in the Word of God, we’ll transcend barriers, personalities or otherwise!
I believe our biggest hurdle is a lack of understanding of what it means to be a follower of Christ. So many believe you can worship God wherever you are and you don’t need to go to church. This clearly stems, in part, from a lack of discipleship. The other hurdle is apathy. Thanks for gearing these resources to those without a Biblical background. Unfortunately, this can even be those who have been in the church a long time.
My main area of ministry is with kiddos, but I am helping, praying, and possibly helping to lead a table at a group Bible study for women and I would say that the biggest hurdle we face is lack of desire to grow as a believer. There is a mindset of complacency and not for action. Growing in Christ might be important to them, but it seems like many aren’t willing to invest in their relationship with God.
The biggest hurdle we face is the overwhelming guilt women feel when they are out of church for some time. Many see themselves as unworthy of worshiping with others or fellowshiping with them. satan has deceived women into believing that they will not be welcomed back into the Body.
Congrats on a new book! I love how you share your experiences working with women in your church. Looking forward to reading it and learning from your wisdom. Blessings! Christina
